Hi, Im new to the subaru scene as a friend of mine gave me her 2006 SE 2.5 with manual tranny. The belt broke so Im wondering if its best just to source an engine hopefully for a grand and put a new belt on? The car has 244000kms the clutch was done last year. Is it best to find an engine that I know runs from a salvage car or source from a place that already has one out? Will an engine that came from an auto tranny be compatiable with mine? Any links or help would be great! Kevin :D

You really just need to swap in a set of good heads, along with the whole timing belt/idler/tensioner/water pump/T stat.

If you can get a known good motor cheap enough, that might be the way to go........But you will still probably need to swap all of the above, except the heads.
