Just downloaded the 2000 owners manual from Directory /Auto/Japan/Subaru/Legacy Outback/2000/Owners Manual/ and it doesn't mention VDC. Had a look at 2001 manual and its mentioned there. I have a Japanese imported (to New Zealand) 2000 Legacy Lancaster VDC.
Seems strange to me that it's not mentioned in the manual until the year later, any clue why?

vdc didn't come out untill 01, but obviously yours did. jdm models are some times a half year ahead of the USDM.
That's right. European, Japanese and other countries got early models. Just consider yours a 2001 when looking for parts and information. Also, when looking, be sure to note that it is Japan built. Some parts will differ.

Thanks guys, I guess there won't be much of a difference though parts-wise between the 00 and 01? Its the same EJ25 engine isn't it? I guess my head gasket will still blow..

Everyplace else on the planet except the US has the model year designated as the year it's released. I think it's a marketing thing actually. eg The US's 2001 is everyone elses 2000.
