OEM Backup Camera

I just asked my dealer to give me a quote for installing the backup camera. The part costs $250 and labour is $250 as well.

Has anyone had this installed onto their 2012 OB?

You might want to let us know how you plan to display the camera video. I have looked into this extensively and I am planning to use some components from eBay and have my installer do the job. He is expecting to spend 3 hours doing this which I think is on target for a pro.
While my Outback comes with camera and display on the nav I am looking to help a friend with a 2012 Forester which is the same type set up as the Outback.

The camera video will be displayed on the rear view mirror using a 3.5" monitor and is the same as what is used on some Asian cars.
Auto dimming rearview mirror 3.5"rearsight,fit Honda Civic,Accord,Odyssey,Subaru | eBay
$184.99

The camera I intend to use is a CCD Sony vs CMOS which isn't as good a camera as the CCD
CCD SONY Car Reverse backup Camera For SUBARU FORESTER / OUTBACK / IMPREZA SEDAN | eBay
$21.10

Installation will be around $160 bucks so for about $370.00 or so I expect to get a good performing system.

I know you asked about factory installs for Outback but this system spec'ed for the Forester works just as well for the Outback.

Hope this helps...

Hi, the camera is made by Poneer just like the OEM head unit that my 2012 OB Limited came with from the factory (AVIC-9310BT). The video will display through the navigation screen. All of this is standard in Canadian Subarus.
Yes I checked and all Limiteds came standard with the wiring harness for the back up camera so the install should be pretty simple. I can't understand why the dealer would charge 250 bucks however for something that should not take that long to install. The camera taking the longest since you have to partially disassemble the hatch.
Should be a nice install...

CAREFUL! The mount on that mirror is for a twist lock bracket. The one in your Subaru is a wedge mount. Not sure if an adapter is available.
