2015 2.5 Outback oil usage?
Since 2000, we have driven Subaru’s. Two Forester’s and now an Outback. Our Forester’s would run 3,500 to 4,500 miles in between oil/filters changes and had NO oil consumption. Our older Forester’s used 5W20. The Outback uses 0W20. We always used Subaru blend or Mobil 1 synthetic.
Our Outback is always down to the add oil mark around 4,000. I ask our Subaru Dealer about this and their reply was: Subaru considers 1 quart of oil per 1,200 miles to be normal?? I think Subaru is WAY behind the curve on this one?? Way back in the 1990’s all my GM/Ford/Chrysler vehicles that I had never used any oil at all.
Has anyone had any experience with this??

You'll find lots of discussion on this in the Gen 5 section of the forum. There have been several threads over the past few years.

ALL makes consider 1 quart/1000 miles normal, it's not a Subaru thing.

+1....why do owner's get so upset about the need to add oil? My wife's '14 used a quart between changes. Didn't give it a second thought. Added oil as needed and continued driving.

My 2002 Ford Escape OM had 1 quart in 900 as normal. Talk about CYA. But mine never used a drop.

I've had 19 cars since I started driving. All kinds from Chevy to Ford to Mazda to Infiniti to Honda and beyond. Only ONE used oil bwrqwwn oil changes - a `13 year old Mazda pickup that had `45k on it when I bought it for 900. All others never noticeably moved down the stick between changes. If my 19 OB H6 used oil I'd be pissed. My 14 Ford F-150 Ecoboost doesn't use a drop hardly that I can tell between its 7500 mile OCI's.

No excuse for a widespread issue to a point where a maker says 1 qt/1200 mi is normal.
