Noticed recently that the airflow only uses the “foot” setting when on “full auto” mode.
Of course, if I press up on the airflow selector button it will change to the dash outlets or defroster but this turns off full auto.
I left it alone on my 30 minute commute home and it never changed.

Has it always been like this, am I doing something wrong or perhaps my system has a problem?
I read manual (4-5 to 4-8) and there’s no mention of the default airflow selection for full auto

Thanks for any info

It's always like that on full auto. It warms up the cabin from below only.

That statement is incorrect. "Floor" is the default air distribution mode when heating. It will automatically change to bi-level or dash vents (only) if the outside temperature rises and/or in bright sunlight. "Full Auto" mode is just that, including air distribution.
