Folks-

When I was checking with a dealer, he was mentioning that if I need leather seats on a 2.5i premium, they will be done by a 3rd party for $1200.
Is that how it works? I don't want to go to the Limited, because, it comes with the other things like HK audio and so on.. It looks like HK audio or stock, the audio system in Subaru sucks...

On a side note: Am I the only one who finds that the previous generation of the Outback looked better than the current one? :D

Thanks.

This should probably be in the general Gen 4 forum btw. Moderator?

I had leather installed aftermarket in my 2011 premium at purchase. My main reason was I wanted a 6MT and it was only available as base or premium. There are two main aftermarket leather companies, Katskin (sp?) and Classic Soft Trim. My dealer dealt with the latter. I insisted on seeing one that had just been done to check the quality of the material and install. Fortunately they had one go through while I was waiting for my car to be built. The leather is definitely higher quality than the Subaru leather. However the color match is not quite as good, they have a huge range of stock colors and suggest which matches the oem best. Some people would not notice or care, I notice but do not care. The fit is generally as good with one exception, the rear middle head rest, which is not quite as 'squared off' looking. I would say that the fit on the seats might be better with the aftermarket.

Yes, I think these cars are pretty bad looking in general and I frankly cringe everytime I get into it. This has been my least favorite car for that and other reasons, but I will keep it as it is solid and practical....

I don't know what music you listed to, but the audio system in my OB does not suck.

Yes, this IS how it works if you don't want to buy the package that has leather seats but insist on leather seats. Sounds like you should get the Acura.

[Posted in another leather thread as well]

Just had our leather seat covers installed here. Classic Soft Trim. Perfect color match (ivory) to the original fabric. Feels really nice - perforated like the OEM seats and feels like they were meant to be in the car.

We now have a 2.5i Premium 6MT with leather seats, which make it a lot like the '05 Legacy 2.5i Limited wagon we used to have, minus the pano sunroof. Not a lot of these around, and we're very happy.

$1200 is cheap leather. Very cheap. They are likely using a kit which you could do your self anyway.
