My 2004 has 165,000 and some change. The 1996 has 278,000 and change. Neither of them ran when I got them.
The 2004 runs fine just has a noise from the transmission in Park and Neutral. Will most likely get a used transmission before I take it to IL in November.
The 1996 had a deteriorated timing belt and wouldn't start because it was wrapped around the crank shaft blocking the sensor. I pulled the motor noticed it has a crack on the back of the block but decided to do head gaskets, valve stem seals, cam seals, rear main, rear oil separator, crossover tube o- rings, water pump, all timing pulleys and belt anyways. I may replace the clutch but I'm probably going to wait on that for now since it all looks good.

97 Outback, 2.5 DOHC, 4, bought it in 2016 with 235,000 miles with 1 owner, now almost 290,000 and getting ready to put its 3rd Timing Belt on at 300,000. No history so far of heD gasket issues, despite bad overheating once due to leaking radiator. Slight rod knock.

My first Subie was a 97 Outback with 2.5. I bought it new in Oct 96, traded it in in Sept 2005 with 121k on the clock, because it had leaking head gaskets. Other than that the car was absolutely bulletproof...great car!

2010 Outback with 193,000 miles. Drive it daily - no leaks and no issues other than rattling heat shields and some weird stutter when I shift from R to P I had for years when. 105k miles changed timing belt and thats it.
