So if the front wheels are permanently connected to the rear wheels, then how does the parking brake work? If you yank up on the brake while in the snow, do all 4 wheels lock? Are there parking brakes on all 4 wheels or just the rears?

Just works on the rears. Mechanical bind through the driveline would at very least resist front wheel movement, on at least one side. With the type of front vs rear transfer variable based on transmission and other options like your VDC, the impact of the rears being held by the parking brake would vary too.
