Long time Outback owner (2003 and 2012) looking to buy a used 2015 and newer Legacy or Impreza. Which of these are best for CVT and engine reliability? I know the 2.5 well and it’s prior head gasket, valve cover gasket issues and I’m familiar with the 4th gen OB CVT problems. I’m assuming the Legacy shares those issues. What about the Impreza with its 2.0 as well as its CVT? Same story? Anything I should be aware of? Is the Legacy 3.6 and associated CVT more reliable? Any help is appreciated thanks.

same engine and CVT family so I would expect similar reliability overall
FB 2.0 vs FB 2.5

Personally I think the Impresa is SLOW compared to an already slow Legacy 2.5L

Thanks. Didn’t know if the CVT was the exact same for the 2.0. Obviously it would be less stressed on a smaller car with less torque.
