Heres the deal, I've got a 2002 Outback Limited with 89,000 miles on it, but has a slight popping noise when sitting still/barely rolling and turning the wheel right. Im leaning towards it being an axle, but the noise seems to be coming from around the steering column. I was curious if this might be related to the steering linkage or any other problem. Any help will be appreciated.

Check the joints in the column for evidence of a bind. There is one in particular on the engine compartment side that tends to dry out or deteriorate if oil gets on it.

There are also bearings in the Jose column that could be causing it.
