Hey all, last night while running papers, the Outback lost all grip and slid like a sled into a guardrail in a parking lot, I was already tiptoeing around at 10-15 in the lots due to ice. The car was able to be driven home, but I am done fixing it. Not fixing it this time. Which comes to my question.

Has anyone on these boards had any luck with a part out of a 2000-2004 Outback? Particularly in the Northeast, specifically NW NJ? If so, I may part out the car to maximize the car's value. The interior and motor/trans are in good shape. But have 228K miles on it. Damage is on the driver front, some along the side, and the rear quarter. Front end (steering/suspension) has damage but not sure how bad, and the driver's rear corner is also bent, but unsure what is cause as well.

I won't ship anything unless its small. If anyone is interested, 2000 Outback, 2.5, 5 speed manual, heated seats, heated mirrors, and its that common wintergreen/titanium color combo. Located in Sussex County, New Jersey.

I know this is not the for sale section, I just put the info on the car and location in there to prevent a long list of questions. Reason for posting here is I wanted to know if anyone had any luck parting out. If people have, then I will put it in the parts section, and also on Craigslist.

I can think of a few parts I may be interested in, pending pictures of the car. I've never parted out a car on here myself but it seems like most people who do have pretty good luck. These cars are hard to find in junkyards so I tend to look at the classifieds section here hoping someone is parting one out.
Alright, I'll get some photos today for you. Pitt is a good ride from here. I don't have anything to really use as far as transport goes at the moment. Have a pair of Trans Ams, one running, one project. Both are from the 80s. Not sure I'd use the running one for a long haul even to meet.

But I am definitely not set up to ship. Otherwise I'd do so. Have no boxes or anything to do it. If people are willing to pay for the shipping and boxing I may consider doing so. But then again, I'm not setup to receive payment either.

Anyway I will get some photos. As a whole the car could be fixable, but for the cost and effort involved? With so many of these things on the road, its not worth it. I could find another manual trans one for 3 grand.

If there are enough people nearby, I can easily part it out. I know what you mean though on the shipping and the like. Initially I was hoping that the car would make it to the point where I could just drive it to the dealer and trade it in. However, I doubt they'd even look at it seriously now and I'd be stuck with it. It was having problems with the front end and the like before it even hit the guardrail. I already made the decision that I wasn't gonna fix it anymore, already put well over a grand into it in the past year alone. The hit is just the final nail in the coffin. If I just scrapped it it would garner at most 300, I was hoping for 500 from the trade in if not more. I have the time and patience to part out a car, storage space well...I can figure something out. But I am not shipping parts like doors and the like. If someone wanted a mirror fine, I can figure out shipping for that. But doors, seats, fenders, etc, I won't ship no matter what. Come pick it up only.

I will likely list it here and on CL as a part out, if someone offers me say 750 for the whole shebang, I may just say take it away. But I'd rather see if I could make a lil more with the car so I can try to do something at the dealer.

Here are a few pics, the frame is cracked where it rotted out, I wouldn't try saving it.

If anyone wants anything just say the word, otherwise, what on this thing would be the biggest value to save? I'm thinking motor, trans, the heated seats, heated mirrors, all the remaining good lights, wheels (tires aren't worth a ****), doors, hatch, some more pieces from the interior. Hood was swapped after a deer decided to try to commit suicide after Hurricane Sandy. The motor has a new timing belt/water pump. Radiator is new too. I don't know what to even price this thing at. If it wasn't for the ice and slide I probably would have listed it at 1200 had I decided to sell it privately. Car has 228,000 miles on it. Not sure on the condition of the differentials. I will also put something in the classifieds.

Looks like it has leather? If so, I would potentially be interested in the rear center head rest and if you were closer the interior door panels.
Yeah, its a leather interior. A lil wear and tear but people are surprised how good it looks. Door panels I would be willing to ship but not sure how they'd hold up through the process.

If you decide to part it out, I would be interested in the tweeters with the covers if they work. You'd have to ship them though since i'm in Canada. I could pay through paypal...

Let me know how much you want for them and the shipping cost too.

I think the stereo is on the way out, any way I can verify if the tweeters on the doors work? I will be checking out Paypal's story on receiving payment, I've used paypal to pay people so maybe it will work the other way around. It may be a lil time but I will keep track of what people request here. I may dismantle the car so I can get rid of the shell.

As far as wiring goes, does anyone know how much the default wiring in the car can accommodate options like heated seats? For example, there is wiring in my 84 Trans Am for the auto trans shifter, my car being a manual I didn't have use for it, so it was just left disconnected. But it was there in case an auto trans went in it.

Anyway, I am considering putting the car on CL too, I'll try to keep as many of the part requests as I can. But if someone offers me 500-1000 to take the car away, I'll let them take it.

I would sell it whole, with new LF fender and headlight, that car would be presentable.
$60 for a fender, 13 2013 Subaru Outback Fender - Body Mechanical & Trim - Action Crash, Front Left - Driver Side, Front Right - Passenger Side - PartsGeek
Depending on your tax situation, get an appraisal and donate it.
Parting is just a major headache.
Its gonna need more than just the fender, needs a headlight, bumper itself is bent on one side, the radiator support/headlight bucket is crushed, suspension is bent on the driver's side front and rear, the driver's quarter got crushed in so far I could barely get the spare tire jack out (we use them on the lower cars to get a jack under them). I know it seems reparable, but I wouldn't do it, not with the rust issues, a CEL for the dreaded P0420 code, airbag light, bearings were failing before the hit, the whole front end is knocking now. possible diff issue in the front. Donating cars won't do anything for me tax wise. If I could part out enough of it, and get enough money I may be able to go to the dealership for a small down payment on a new ride. The Outback was going to get traded in in the first place. I am working on the CL listing now. See what people say. I'd say 750 or so takes the whole car away, may come down to 500. Any lower then I'll part it. It will run and drive but it will need to be rebuilt suspension wise and the obvious body work.

I am taking part requests on this thread, the classified thread and via email at [email protected], doing this on a first come first serve basis. First person to request gets dibs, second person to ask for the same part gets a chance if the first deal falls through and so on. As of now I've had two requests for the wheels/tires. Cargo screen and floor mats have someone ask for those. The winter kit (heated seats, mirrors, etc. Two people have asked for the mirrors so far. First come first serve, as I explained above) is spoken for as is the Baja Turbo rear sway. None of the parts have been sent out since I'm waiting til later in the weekend to see if the first guy to reply to the ad wants the whole car.

For some more pics, please see the classified ad where you will find a CL listing with 8 photos on it in the first post. Its been a few days, and I still haven't heard from the first guy about the whole car, everything on it is up for grabs. Another thing that changed the game was two people have cash in hand for the wheels/tires and some other parts. Sorry but the money talks. Come tomorrow I will start stripping the car. However, progress on the stripping will depend on the weather. So I just ask patience once I start the process, I have everyone's request written down on pen and paper as well.

Thanks all.
