What's your oil of choice? I just put in Pennzoil Platinum 5W30, used that stuff on my 04 Z71 Chev and love it! I've heard people use a thicker oil in these cars (out back xt) and I was considering it since I'm from western Canada! Any thoughts ?

The stuff you used should be fine. The trick with XTs is to check the oil at least a few times between changes. They have an odd curve for oil consumption. They burn more of some oils than others, and they burn more of it late in each cycle.

You're off to a good start with what you've got, now just learn the loss pattern (if any) on the way up to the next change in 3750 miles.

I've been using shell rotella T6 for a few years.

I'd go with Mobil 1 0W40 or Castrol Edge 0W40 myself.

Pennzoil Plat is one of the thinner 30 wt oils and for your turbo I agree with the mod on using a euro spec oil that's a 40.

M1 and Castrol are easily found at WM but Pennzoil 0w/40 with their euro specs isn't as commonly found.
