This is a really interesting article.

So the EDR (black box) stores up to five seconds before a crash and has four memory spaces for different accidents.

This was written by a consulting company so lawyers can get the data for legal action;

So the dealer service tool can get the data but the video retrieval icon is greyed out. That must be something that the manufacturer can access but not a dealership.

Good post.

Slide 17 is very informative; wonder how long the situation will remain that way? Meantime I would expect insurance companies to start putting in clauses in their policies to compel the insured to give them access to this data upon request.
