Hello new to this and subaru. My daughter has a 2011 subaru forester 2.5 non turbo in a XT Touring awd. There's an extreme amount of crank case blowback I'm assuming it's dropped a cylinder motor runs surprisingly well but not 100%. Question here vin code 6th digit is an A what is the difference from hers a pzev and a Vin code B federal emissions motor? Can I swap it out ? Is it just differences in the computer ? Thanks

EJ engine? I think you should do a little more diagnosis - suppose timing has just slipped?

pull timing covers and confirm it hasn't slipped cam timing or something.

try compression testing.

Are you saying this is a turbo engine? If that's the case you need to do some good diagnostics - might be the turbo and not the block.

there are JDM options as well

not sure on the PZEV engines.
