I'm trying to get to the R/S transaxle output seal, but I can't figure out how to get the race out of the transaxle. I've read it's retained by a spring pin, but there is no pin. I've also read you have to pry it past a clip but I've had no luck there either. Any suggestions? Maybe I'm not prying hard enough? 2002 Impreza Outback Sport, 5 speed, 2.5L.

There is no pin on that style of axle, you will have to pry with a crow bar or such between the back of the cv joint cup and the transmission. It should dislodge that way with the stub together. Once it's out, you can remove the seal. It would be a bit easier if you use a dedicated seal puller and be careful not to gouge the area where the seal sits. Best of luck!
