Well, I just called the salvage yard, and on Monday they will pick up the car for $50.

I gave up on finishing the head gasket job - I got close, but was stopped by two AC/alt bracket bolts broken off in the left head.

Darn sorry to hear that... :behead: whoever broke those bolts off

That assembly is held at three points. The bolt on the top of the head was snapped off. The bolt in the front of the head snapped off as I removed it. The bracket was already broken at that bolt. I have no idea what ever happened to snap that bracket that way - I can't imagine anything happening in service, or even some abusive mechanic that could cause that.
