I have a 2002 impreza outback sport. The left rear hatch back support lever that holds the door open broke, without any abnormal wear and tear. I have an extended warranty (5 yeras) and they said its not covered under warranty. The door will not stay open with just the right lever functioning, and the body shop wants $400 to fix it.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I have the same year/model and have never heard of that problem. And sorry I didn't quite catch what you meant exactly. The pnuematic tube shock that holds up the rear hatch? A door hinge? What exactly is wrong? Brian

rear hatch door support lever broke

Its the rear ball/spring support lever that holds the hatch door open. There's one on the left and one on the right that support the hatch door up when you open it. Seems odd that the screw attaching the lever to the body of the door would just fall off.
