Hi,

From researching on the internet, it seems that in order to get the rear view camera option on a Subaru Outback, one must get the powered moonroof option. However, there are three different moonroof options: first, is just the powered moonroof for $1,445; second, is the moonroof with navigation system for $2,645; and third, is the moonroof with navigation and eyesight system option for $3,940.

Which of the three moonroof options includes the rear view camera for backing up? Do you have to special request the rear view camera, or does it come automatically with one of these moonroof packages? Thanks a lot!
If you get the moonroof without the nav package, the backup camera appears in the rearview mirror. If you get the nav, the backup camera appears on the nav screen. The camera comes in any car with a moonroof, including the premium. I wound up getting the Moonroof + Backup mirror in a Premium (I actually wanted fabric seats due to 2 little kids). It was a little difficult getting the combo in the color I wanted, but my dealer eventually found one. If you are getting the camera, you might want to get the black bumper cover, as some people have complained of glare reflecting off of the bumper.

Oh, by the way, is your rear image displayed in your rearview mirror, or did you get the nav option which displays it on the nav screen? Also, how do you like the rearview camera function? Thanks!
I didn't get the Nav... those Garmin Nuvi units are a much better deal and you can move them from car to car. The backup camera appears on the left side of the mirror and kind of makes sense to me to be looking in the mirror while backing up. My wife was the one that wanted it, but it is actually a nice addition. I find it works well day or night, and makes parking in tight spaces a breeze. I'm not a big fan of Moonroofs, but I have to say on a nice sunny day, I slide the shade back and it makes the car feel very open... I just hope it never develops a leak.

This is incorrect for the 2013 models. I just bought a 2013 Outback and the backup camera screen appears in the in-dash set up. HOWEVER, if I were to do it again, I would get the navigation just because there is a 7-inch screen that comes with it. If you don't get the navigation, you get a screen that is about the size of a small postcard. It really sucks after having an 8.4-inch screen in a previous car.
Sorry... If you have the 9 speaker stereo with the lcd screen or nav it appears on that screen. If you get the 6 speaker stereo it appears in the mirror. I have a 2013 and it is in the mirror.
