OK, 230K miles in and have developed a rod knock on #1 (low oil level gone unnoticed, but no light came on), but is only noticeable at start up and under half throttle. Redone heads last year, timing belt, water pump, radiator etc, etc, etc. Need to replace the Cats to pass smog and wanted to know if I should rebuild what I have with a ring and bearing swap or go junkyard short block.
Either way, where is the best place to get a gasket set, seems to be several options out there.
I'm going to sell it when finished, but want to pass on a decent product, not slapped together just to sell, I'm not that kind of person.
Thanks for the help!

Yep, you're right, SOHC, my bad, thanks guys. Going to pull the motor and open it up for "fun". if the parts are in good shape and the damage is minor I'll rebuild the existing motor, if not, off to the bone yard for a swap out. Thanks for the advice!!:D

Grossgary,
What is the newest I could/should use for a short block?
Here's the deal.

Scenario #1
HG set - $200
Short Block from bone yard - $130
Total - $330

Scenario #2
Long Block from bone yard - $170

Situation - 2000 (original) heads just redone with shop and in great shape.

I am cheap, but want a decent fix. Since it's winter I'm kind of being a vulture and waiting for a good crash to deposit a potential motor in my local pick n pull.

Advice?

Thanks!!
:D
