Redline ATF?

Anyone else running Redline D4 ATF? Or is the Subaru stuff much better for these 4EATs?

Shifting is a little rough at the moment. I'm a little low and wondering what I should buy to top it off. My previous drain and fill was Redline.

I've always used Valvoline MaxLife in 4EATs and 5EATs. It's cheap, available everywhere, and has worked well for me for many years, so I've never seen the need to go for anything fancier. I'd say between MaxLife and Idemitsu ATF-HP, you can't go wrong. No experience with Redline.
I run their gear oil in all my vehicles, differentials and transfer cases. But stick to the Subaru OEM ATF in my 5EAT.
I read the D4 ATF is on the thinner side compared to Subaru ATF (Dex 3-equiv) and Subaru HP ATF (Dex 6-equiv). I just run Idemitsu's HP ATF as it's OE-replacement to Subaru and is pretty cheap.

Valvoline Import ATF in a pinch.

You can get 12 quarts of Idemitsu's HP for $63.92 and FREE Shipping and no sales tax off Ebay. Thats $21.31 a gallon and my nearest Autozone wants $22.99 a gallon for Maxlife Import, plus our 10% sales tax ($75.85) . So I saved about $11.95

Do you need the Subaru ATF or Subaru HP ATF for the 2.5i / 4EAT combo?

The redline is $15/quart, definitely won't be using that anymore, especially if it's not ideal.
I am not sure about the newer 4EAT's. The older ones worked fine on Tractor Fluid. ;)

Almost all newer ATF'a like Dexron 4 and above are Synthetic based or blended. The Idemitsu's HP from everyones guess, is Synthetic and DOWNWARD compatible.

I ordered a 12 pack just after I posted that above and it arrived this morning around 9:25AM. WOW.
I run the valvoline full synth in the WRX 4eat.

all the others get Lucasoil ATF
