My Outback came with a key/remote in one unit. I would like to have a remote entry fob unit without the ignition key.
Why? For a friend to use when out recreating. Cheaper, can leave in the car, more convenient.

What are my options? Will the 2011 Forester fob work with my outback?

The radio can be removed from the key, it's a stand alone module. I removed mine to place in a folding flip key. Buy a spare key and remove it, or not have it cut, rendering it useless to start the car, or place in a flip housing w/o the key blank. (Radio codes are different on the Forester remote, doubt it would work). You can learn I believe 4 radios and rfid codes.

Forgot, spare remote is useless if vehicle is running, the receiver doesn't respond if ignition is on.
