The standard maintenance schedule says to replace the fuel filter every 30 months or 30,000 miles. Are others here doing this as a matter of course? I've always treated fuel filters as only worth changing if a symptom develops.

Preventative maintenance....why wait until there is an issue when routine maintenance can prevent an issue?

Do you wait until there is an issue before changing your oil?

Replace every 6 to 12 months with el-cheapo Duralast or equivalent 10 dollar filter... Believe me our nearly 20 year old vehicles have nothing but brown toilet water in the gas tank since they are not plastic tanks. No matter what you do short of removing the tank and having it coated or replaced with a new one your filter will have significantly reduced flow every 6 months and you're pushing it at a year.

Replacing the fuel filter on this gen Subaru is easy and inexpensive. Just DIY and enjoy the ease and low price of the replacement part.
