Just one of those "always wondered" questions ...

If you loose the keyless remote ( on cars that use start/stop button) can a new one be programmed using a code number that is available thru the dealer or does the car have to be towed to a dealer where the new remote is matched to the car ? I hope that makes some sense .

As I understand it the new remote needs to be programmed to the car.

However, on most models, you can do it yourself. I just replaced the one on my Forester with no problems. Although the newer OB might require the dealer.

I do believe that some locksmiths can replicate your existing key code too, eliminating the need to reprogram.

edit: I just realized you have SAP, I don't think cars101 addresses that. My guess is you will need the dealer to program it.
