I just got a quote from Glendale Subaru (The largest Subaru dealer in the world) and they want $5000 over MSRP. I'm totally new to Subaru, is that how most dealers are? I'm in San Diego but willing to drive north if anyone has any suggestions.

This is my first post but I've learned so much lurking on this forum. Thank you all in advance.
Try $10+k over the MSRP from Puente Hills Subaru! They have 3 sitting on their lot waiting for a 🍭. Very sad to see a dealer do that but on the other hand very happy to hear people are paying MSRP or less for the new Wilderness. I would love one! Trying to be patient and wait out the remainder of the year. Also waiting for the 2022 Forester announcements from SOA. Should be August (I hope). I'm only speculating because their 0% financing incentive goes away August 4th. We'll see.

It is how ALL dealerships, not just Subaru, are due to shortages from COVID. Glad we are all set for now with our '14 (80k miles) and '19 (12k miles), LOL! Don't buy now unless you have to.

I bought my 20 Touring XT from Glendale Subaru in Dec 2019. I had to order it and paid cash for it. I got some discount off MSRP but I will NEVER buy from Glendale Subaru again. They are a slimy. untoward organization. I filed complaints with BBB and SOA; all of which fell on deaf ears. My issue was having to run a credit report and not providing me a copy as required by law. Mind you, this was for a cash transaction. No credit or financing involved. I made SOA change my preferred dealer after buying the car. The Glendale Subaru sales person was decent but the Finance person and General Manager were certified dirt bags. I would gladly pay a little more but certainly not over MSRP and use another dealer. If the only way to get the car was by paying over MSRP, I will wait. I did not need a new car but I wanted the 20 Touring XT to replace my 12 Limited. Had I known that Glendale Subaru were the slime balls they turned out to be, I would have taken my business elsewhere.

Wait until next year or whenever the chip shortage is over. Let the dumb asses and those with too much money over pay.

Just do a lift kit and tires yourself..less than 2000 and you can pick what company to buy components from..what model you want to drive..wheel and tire package..way too easy to get what I’ve had for the past five years on my 13 OB..to pay that much for something you probably won’t be off roaring too much is silly

We have three dealerships in Milwaukee. All have Wildernesses in stock - about 30 in total. None are marked up. We've purchased several Subarus from Schlossman's Subaru City. Ask for Cat Ransley. It's worth a flight here and a road trip home. Or pay a couple grand and have it shipped. Go Bucks!

It is a bad time to buy a new or used vehicle, might be a good time to sell something though. I spent a lot of time and research on the websites, went to 3 dealers and 3 more on the phone, between Thursday- last Sunday, and it was a huge struggle to lease a Hyundai Kona electric for my Fiance in the Los Angeles area because the dealers were marking up most cars $4,995. for the chip shortage, and they had pre installed paint protection, interior protection, and alarms for a $2,500-$3,200 add depending on dealer. We were after a 21 SEL model that has a nationally advertised $199. lease, but it is unobtainable since this market only has Limited and Ultimate models remaining. I used to sell cars for a living so I know the business, and this was an absolute chore because the dealers are confident they will get plenty of foolish suckers right now. In the end, Norm Reeves called me Sunday at 7:00 pm and accepted my offer which was to waive all add ons and $100 more per month for 36 mo lease on a 5k higher msrp car than the special lease offer msrp car. Point is, make an offer that you are comfortable with to all dealers near you and then wait it out. This dealer was very nice once we arrived at a deal, and I would recommend them and the Kona to anyone looking for an E car, but like emphasized by posts above, If you can wait, wait, because they are getting new 22s and soon it will be back to normal.

I'm glad I dodged that bullet. I have been buying all my Toyotas from Longo in El Monte, the largest Toyota dealer in the world and they are so great. I thought I would have the same luck with a Subaru but Glendale was a joke. After the Costco advice I am all set, they are even going to bring the paperwork and car to my house. I won't even step into the dealer just like how all of my Toyota deals have been. Now I just have to wait but I'm really excited to drive my first Subaru.

Unfortunately NOW is NOT the best time to buy new or pre-owned automobiles. Prices are insanely high. Definitely do your homework and shop around. Certain parts of the country have better incentives than others. Looks on Cars.com, Costco's buying program, and others.
