First post here folks! (2005 manual i model)

I have lurked around for a while now and can not get the answer that I am looking for.

Question of the day.. Can I use 235 width tires instead of my 225 stock tires?

I am running the stock 225/60/16 and want to go to 235/60/16.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had luck with what I am doing. I did find member Bimmer using 235/60/17 with luck, but I am not sure if the wheel size makes a diff..

Apologies if I missed the answer to this somewhere...I tried. Lots of talk about tires, but no answer to this Q..

Thanks,
Subinoob

Thanks for the link..

2 things though...

1. He used wheels that were not the stock 16"ers that come on the Outback. Speculation seemed that they were sorta the same wheel as stock and should work.

Hmm...sounds good, BUT, I don't want to make an expensive mistake, so I would absolutely love to hear from someone who simply threw 235/60/16 tires on the stock Outback wheels and have zero issues.

2. In California, sometimes the HP requires us to put on chains even on an AWD. I wonder if 235 width would present a problem with chains, as the clearance may be minimized a bit.

Thanks for any help! Keep it comin'. Any other links???

I had a customer come in with a 2nd gen and he had 235/60R16s on with tons of clearance (ran through a set of Michelin Hydroedges so probably had them for 80000+ miles). I can't imagine a 3rd gen will have any less clearance. Plus any decent tire shop should allow you to test fit and if they don't fit, just use the stock size.
