My wife only used the app for the remote start function and other than checking for recalls, which I’ve found out about here long before I see it in the app, I didn’t use it for much else. Is there another way to access a remote start function? I’m aware of the separate fob that was/is available, but can that be added and used if it wasn’t included when the vehicle was purchased? It might not be of much use for us since we live in a condo building some distance away from where the cars are parked but I am curious about it. My wife would be interested in that if it were feasible. Other than that, the subscription wouldn’t be worth it. It’s too bad they couldn’t continue the 3 year option for $75-$150. At a max of $50 a year we would consider it. Seems like they would also benefit as opposed to those like us who will just cancel.I talked to my Dealer yesterday about this and he said that if you don't renew the Starlink subscription the MySubaru App is worthless.
The app-based remote start function relies on cellular connectivity to the car. Without a Starlink subscription that connectivity is suspended so there would be no way for the command to reach the vehicle. Is there another way to access a remote start function?
Granted, but there is a separate remote start fob. Can that be added? Again it might not be a viable option for us.The app-based remote start function relies on cellular connectivity to the car. Ah, I see that remote start can be performed by the existing key fob. I didn’t know about that. But that still has a distance issue for us. We might try it though and see how far away it can be used.Granted, but there is a separate remote start fob. Can that be added? Again it might not be a viable option for us.
I wish they offered the 7 yr now. I would have gotten that too.I only did a 5 year rate. In hindsight I should have done 7.
My experience is that it works pretty much by "line of sight"! If you can't see or hear the car it doesn't work (or you don't know if it did work)!Ah, I see that remote start can be performed by the existing key fob. I didn’t know about that. If you get the remote start installed you can use the existing fob but only for short distances. The kit includes a separate remote that is supposed to go to 200' or something like that.Ah, I see that remote start can be performed by the existing key fob. I didn’t know about that. I left my car at a friend's house in Portland and flew to Florida for a cruise last April. I called my friend and told him to go out in his driveway.Ah, I see that remote start can be performed by the existing key fob. I didn’t know about that. But that still has a distance issue for us. This.It can only be done with the existing fob if you get the add-on remote start installed. That will give you a separate fob for long distances (up to 400ft with no obstructions) or you could use the main fob for short distances (50-75ft). This will not work unless you get the add-on remote start installed. Yes, you can get it installed later even if it wasn't included with the purchase. However, it will cost a lot and you're better off with renewing the Starlink subscription.
You can have the fob-based remote start system installed...the parts are likely about $400 and the labor is on top of that. This is only available as a dealer installed accessory...it's not been available "from the factory/port" for years now as they encourage use of the StarLink subscription.s there another way to access a remote start function? Thanks. I asked my wife if she wanted to push for that as some kind of compensation for this transmission ordeal but she’s not interested. Neither the Starlink subscription nor this remote start system is worth it to us at this time. You can have the fob-based remote start system installed...the parts are likely about $400 and the labor is on top of that. How do you do that? Curious and thanksAs a side note, you can set up Starlink to work with the voice capability of you phone and run the commands via voice.
Haven’t tried it with Google Assistant since I have an iPhone. Once the Siri shortcut template was posted it was easy, but that may not be the case for Android users. How do you do that? Curious and thanks
PS I have android and ooops, too complicated, I'll use the buttons

Based on the last part of his comment I think he watched the video and decided it wasn’t worth the effort. To be fair, it does seem a bit daunting when you first look at it. I had never used Siri Shortcuts before so that was a learning experience. The process is linked to in the comment you quoted...the blue lettering. Click on it.![]()
