My 2014 Outback 180K: I always thought it had rather stiff steering. Not sure if it has been a slow creep, but compared to my other vehicle (‘21 Ascent) and a new outback (loaner vehicle I drove) it sure feels much stiffer to turn. I have flushed PS fluid in recent past. No weird noises.

How do I tell if power steering is bad?

Thanks

If you have hydraulic PS... my 2012 had a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for the PS pump. When my pump quit, the dealership replaced it free of charge.

If yours is not covered by TSB... you should be able to go to your favorite local shop to get it replaced. It is VERY simple to replace PS pump on Subaru because it is right on top of the engine.(easy access) I could replace PS pump in under an hour.

I just looked up the cost of replacement PS pump.... less than $200.
