Hello, fine folks

I have been browsing the Craigslists in search of a bargain on a winter wheel setup for my car. I found these Audi A8 wheels and have contacted the seller. I have read some mixed reviews regarding running oem Audi wheels on the OB, discrepancies with the hubs and offset.. however others have mentioned that they run fine with slight modification or an adapter. This fellow is selling them with an adaptor intended for VW use. Is it beyond reasonable effort to attempt to run these wheels throughout a moderate winter season in New England? The tires are secondary and will likely be replaced during the winter but will be run through fall, I plan to offer 300-350 and feel that this is a good deal for a second pair of wheels. Link to CL listing: https://southcoast.craigslistst.org/wto/d/225-55r17-set-of-4-on-audi-vw/6298646441.html

Thanks!

I wouldn't bother. They are very heavy compared to your stock wheels. And then there is the whole adapter thing. For that kind of money you should be able to find 5x100 VW or Subaru wheels with good tires on them.

Change your CL search parameters to 5x100 in the wheel and tire section. You want at least high 30s for offset. Center bore must be at least 56.1.

Man, I'm jealous of all the nice wheels for sale cheap out there. Dayum!

16" subaru rims are typiclal things to find,

and 16" snows are cheaper then 17" snows.

and the deeper sidewall of the 16 protects the rim more then a shallow 17,...important when considering feb-march pot holes.

and you can use any 16" subaru rim from 2000-2014,...as they are all using 5x100 (except some rare WRX STI dork rim)

(16" was the base rim size on 2005-2009,...and the only thing that stops you from using them is a upgrade to 2008 LGT brakes).

______
rare is a thread here VW / audi rims on subarus although they exist (maybe from people jumping brands and they have new snows on VW rims and they get the spacer thing vs. just selling them ...,....

those audis you got there are weird things with 5x112,...like will not bolt right up exact to any subaru.

Don't forget about the Tribeca.

Many VW wheels are 5x100 also, from the early 90s to 98/99 (VR6 only). From 99 to 2004.5 all are except Passats (because those Passats were Audi A4s) and Eurovans. MkI Audi TTs used 5x100 also (because it's just a Golf).

Do keep in mind though, your stuck lugnuts will not work Audi/VW wheels as the seats are different shapes.

I just plain forget tribeca,...although there is a glut of them on the forsale markets now.

.I think all took massive heavy 8x18" ... 5x114.3 ..

.maybe ripe for 2004 STI drag racers.

I had a feeling the A8 wheels were a reach. I wasn't finding a lot at first in my area for attractive 5x100s under $400 but I might have landed on these as a reasonable winter set https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/wto/d/subaru-rims-16-5x100/6324067006.html

Would just swap out tires for brand new snows and go. They aren't outdated looking and will run great in deeper snow and pot holes. I wish I could find a second exact pair of my stock wheels tbh, as one wheel came from previous owner with haenous curb rash but they look great.

well, what ever years STI take 5x114.3

that came with these coveted BBS

]
All years except 2004 (USDM) are 5x114.3. They used an almost identical wheel on the STI for 2005-7 but they are 17x8 instead of 17x7.5. Why are they coveted so much other than being 5x100 and one year only? Both are forged BBS.

The 2005-7 wheels weigh about 4lbs more than the 2004 wheels. That could mean that they are stronger in addition to being wider.

A set of the 2004 BBS rarely go for under $1000 unless they have a bunch of curb rash. The 2005-7 wheels can be had for $5-600 a set.
