Hi Everyone,

My head gasket blew on my 99 outback, and my engine overheated. I don't have the time (and certainly don't have all the necessary tools) to dedicate to fixing or replacing the engine myself. I'm hoping someone can recommend a mechanic in Southern California (preferably near San Diego) that specializes in Subarus, and would be able to offer me a price below dealerships. I'm looking at almost $100 an hour at the local dealerships, and that's going to be too much for me...

Please, owners and mechanics, send any suggestions my way! I'm really hoping to get this job started soon.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Jon, I've deleted your duplicate post.

This should be sufficient. The vast majority of our members use the "New Posts" link on the front page, and therefore they see all new posts made since their last visit, regardless of what forum they were posted in.

Good luck with you HG repair!!!

Bump... anyone? Independent mechanics in SoCal that you recommend? I've got a few names, but no reviews/recommendations.

I've been going to Dan Auto Repair at 9545 Kearny Villa Road # 106 92126.

He's not a subaru specialist, but I've been taking Mazdas (and see Mercs in the shop) to him for ~10 years.

I'm also told Encinitas Foreign and Domestic is good, though they're not Subaru specialists either.

I'd be really happy to hear about anyone else's Subaru specialsists...

Hi all,

This an old post than never seems to have fulfilled its purpose.

Nearly 10 years on has there been progress in locating a solid non-dealer mechanic that knows Subaru in the San Diego area?

I've got a possible burnt valve on cylinder 4 in my 05 OBXT...

Many thanks

with a turbo car like you got, ask / look on LegacyGt.com,....(and if no good answer there, Naisoc). must be a nice reputable subaru tuner shop there. (and not just 5 nose pickers in a one car garage).

if not there maybe a local law against subarus in that part of California.

@Jacobpockros is on line now and lives there,...maybe has some ideas

Infamous Performance in Escondido specializes in Subaru repairs and performance. They are pricey for head gasket repairs, but seem to be sufficient for other types of work.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. Will definitely check them out. Looks like they've got good reviews
I took my 01 Legacy there for a valve adjustment and Mike Sprank (the owner) seemed very motivated and attentive toward the work at his shop. They adjusted my valves for $200 (I think) which could be a little more than a regular shop but being Subaru specialists they were able to quickly identify a leaking headgasket and steering rack while working on it and to me that was worth taking it to someone that knows the ins and outs of the Subaru brand.

I will also check out Infamous here in North County SD, especially if I get stuck while doing my under armour install.

Thanks for the tip!

Is Infamous Performance in Escondido still in business or moved?
Yelp says CLOSED and
www dot infamousperformance dot com is not live

Any other suggestions for independent Subi service in San Diego?

he should see my mention of him with the @ symbol in front of his name when he signs back in.

like you will get a notification that I replied to you,

and another when I mention your name @Subiego

you can roll back through his thread to see if he mentioned a good shop or a bad shop by name there

that far south in california makes it very hard to own a old subaru though. (used parts and good help are hard to find).

Sorry for the delay! I need to check notifications more often.

Anyways, I haven't heard anything about Infamous personally, but I'm a member of a couple car groups down here (SDCE and [email protected]) so I'll ask them. Personally I've started taking my Subaru to SmarTech Auto in La Mesa. The owner is a great and knowledgeable guy on all things automobile, especially Holdens lol. He's happy to work on MR2s and my patchwork H6, so a subaru of any kind should be easy for him. It's far south of Escondido, so it may be out of the way for you if you're further north. Here's a link to his facebook page if you want to chat with him yourself.

Follow up: Infamous Performance closed up a few months ago. I guess they weren't getting enough business. I still Highly recommend SmarTech. Abo is the owner and he seems very trustworthy and I know other people who have a good experience with him.
