Twice this week, we have started the day by discovering that our tailgate has come open and the car battery is dead. Car is in the garage and we have to push out to jump the battery. Anyone else have this problem? Our hypothesis is that the key fob in the driver's pocket inadvertently gets pressed? Is this likely? What else could explain this? Is there any way to prevent this from happening again?

This thread explains what would be my favorite fix (and is how I found this forum). Unfortunately my wife won't let me do it, and she's the main driver of the Outback.

Several threads in the Gen5 forum about this. On my case it was keeping my keys in my pocket inside the house - stopped doing that, stopped getting texts from the neighbor about my gate open...

This is a common problem. One good solution is to make the gate button on the fob more difficult to push. Then you can keep your fob wherever you want and do not have to be careful. Several people show how this is done here:
