I have been hearing radio advertisements regarding the Takata airbags in our Subaru Outbacks. Affects 2003-2017 Subaru Outbacks.

https://autoairbagsettlement.com/en

Any thoughts?

On Subaru's web site (Subaru Airbag Recalls | Learn More About Takata Airbag Recalls), these are the affected cars listed:

Certain vehicles among the models and model years listed below are affected.

2003-2005 model year Baja
2004-2005 model year Impreza (including WRX and STI)
2003-2008 model year Legacy
2003-2008 model year Outback

The Subaru page is slightly off. If you look at the drop down list box on the page, Subaru lists the recalled Outback years as 2003 through 2012.

Anyway, I was not posting about the recall itself. There appears to be a class action lawsuit where affected owners would receive cash compensation and other compensations for the inconvenience of the recall. This would be in addition to the replacement of the airbag itself.

Maybe read the entire thread before claiming that the topic of a settlement resolution claim website for the class action lawsuit is being discussed elsewhere. :wink2:

you'll get - maybe - $12, the lawfirm makes millions.
From the site and news reports, it seems that one could receive up to $250 in general or up to $500 with proof of incurred expenses.

You are correct that the law firm makes out better than all.

I entered a CA for 'fraudulent' lawnmower horsepower advertisement several years back. I think I got $5 - $6 or so.

my sister and I split a little over $1200 from asbestos manufacturers for my dad's exposure - took decades from when he entered the Action and both my parents died before there was a payout.

I did the same thing for my '17 OB before I read your post. It said mine was included. Then I realized this is a lawyer website. I went to the NHTSA website (https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) and I am not included.

The lawsuit settlement includes Outback years 2003 through 2017.

The lawsuit settlement appears to be something separate from the NHTSA/Subaru recall, which is focused on executing the repairs.

Attorneys must be paid by the number of words written.

Did that document actually say anything?

Awesome, so... we Outback owners get a dollar or two each, the lawyers get more dollars, and Takata gets driven into the ground. Anyone (still) needing a new airbag gets a letter warning them not to drive or sell their car for the next few years until a new airbag supplier is found.

Brilliant.

I think that the 2015 to 2017 Outback and Legacy may have Takata airbags, but since our cars are so "new", they have not yet been added to the recall list.

I got a notice in the mail from Auto Airbag Settlement - autoairbagsettlement.com
I checked the vin of my 2015 Subaru Outback at safercar.gov and my car is not subject to the Takata airbag recall.

Left column are the cars subject to recall per NHTSA / safecar.gov.
Right column is Subaru Settlement Subject Vehicles listed on the autoairbagsettlement.com web site.

Subaru Recall List from NHTSA Subject Vehicles from settlement link
2003-2006 Subaru Baja 2003-2006 Subaru Baja
2009-2013 Subaru Forester 2009-2013 Subaru Forester
2004-2011 Subaru Impreza 2004-2011 Subaru Impreza (Including WRX/STI)
2003-2014 Subaru Legacy 2003-2017 Subaru Legacy
2003-2014 Subaru Outback 2003-2017 Subaru Outback
2006-2014 Subaru Tribeca 2006-2014 Subaru Tribeca
2012-2014 Subaru WRX/STI 2012-2014 Subaru WRX/STI

Note the only change was for the Legacy and Outback, 2015 to 2017 was added to the settlement link.

Until I see it listed on the Subaru site or hear it from Subaru direct, I am not going to concern myself with it. The settlement sites are just trolling for customers.

This really has me curious. I have entered my VIN on Suburu's website and it says no active recalls for my 2014 3.6R. Is my car under the recall?

Of course they have Takata Airbags.

It's not that the cars are new, it's that they're not the same TYPE of airbags that are recalled.

Takata makes two different types of airbags - Desiccated and Non-Desiccated. We're literally talking about something similar to the little bag of silica gel that you might find in your pants that says 'Do Not Eat' on it. As per NHTSA, the airbags that are the issue are the Non-Desiccated kind. In a hot and humid environment, the PSAN (phase stabilized ammonium nitrate) that it used to generate the gas that fills the airbag can degrade. The Desiccated kind have the chemical drying agent so they don't degrade.
