Not all are the same. But many... MANY of you are the kind of people that don't let a little bit of rain, snow or dirt get in your way.

Here's a fellow outback'r I spotted driving through some Seattle Rain a couple storms back.

How about you? What's the deepest water you've forded? The deepest snow shredded? The steepest slope driven up?

I just went for a midnight drive after replacing my t-belt tensioner. On a whim I decided to barge through a snowbank and go down a snow-packed trail. The car performed better than I could have expected. Still, there's one very steep hill at the end that I doubt I would have made it up without my Hankook snows. I only wish the trail was longer. It only took 10 minutes. :(
come to the west coast subaru show. next year will be the 15th year. you'll meet some interesting folks, well worth it if you are a car person. http://jalopnik.com/5936595/even-good-ol-boys-love-mudding-in-subarus

I now know where your mud picture has been taken :D
Not me, but I have driven up this before in my Jeep. Steepest I have driven up. 3 times as scary coming down.

Deepest water covered my 35" tires.

In the Outback, deepest snow was probably about 12"
1) abt 3 inch of water on downhill-uphill suburban road. No problem. So does an old 199x toyota corrolla in front. A new 5 series bmw did not make it. An audi & vw make it but both hv to pull aside afterward.

2) a lot higher water level on flat suburban rd. Make it thru fine. But water hit my exhaust and stream was coming off under my car. I know someone damagad a mazdaspeed3 in this flood. Flash flood is no joke.... in this case, you hv to drive out of the area, no choice....leaving car there is even worse.
Not to start a political thread here (election's over - thank God), but I've never seen a Subaru with a Romney/Ryan bumper sticker.

My brother who lives in Vermont told me they are the "state car" there. I'm a liberal, artist, sailing, Mac using, dude with a golden retriever that rides nearly everywhere with me in the back of the Sube. So, I guess I had to get this car.

As for fording streams like the pic, I don't drive into standing water, or grab downed power lines, or run into burning buildings. That guy looks like he's trying to win a Darwin award.
I notice the same thing. MA is extremely liberal and has tons of Subarus. I don't fit that stereotype at all. I consider myself a conservative libertarian. Though I would never put a bumper sticker on it, if I did it would be for Rand Paul.

We might be some of the only ones on this forum with that mindset :D.

I've had a very high opinion of the guy since I learned who he was and the filibuster only raised my opinion even more.

I've often thought I should do something to eliminate the assumption that my Outback is driven by a liberal democrat, like maybe a "Who is John Galt?" license plate frame (if frames were legal in this state anyway).

Anyway, back on topic...
"Who is John Galt?"
He's the imaginary amoral darling of an anarchist Russian atheist.

...other than that, he's a swell guy,

Fixd...

Thanks for filling in some of the conveeeeniently unmentioned details, Dave.

...but other than that, she was a swell guy, too,

I'll admit some of Ayn Rand's ideas were beyond crazy and she herself isn't exactly an ideal person for a number of reasons, but I do agree with much of what she said. I have virtually no objections to her views on religion, economics, and individuality for example.

Well, I have a "Death to Tyranny" sticker as well as a "Go back to sleep....Your Government is in charge". Not to mention my personalized license plate is GOV2BIG. Keep the faith.
Wife bought her 95 OB for a rural paper route in the Cascades of WA. It's been all over the place in the winter. And through flooded rural areas. Bounced off a deer. Dropped a valve, blown 2 spark plugs out of the driver side front cylinder...

Definitely not a liberal soccer mom... She's a TN farm girl, wants her car fixed, rodded, lifted so it won't get stuck in the overflow creeks in our pecan orchards... Where she's gotten a backhoe stuck.

Car survived many a west coast mountain winter, only to croak after a Memphis to Nashville to Memphis run. She's been on m for a year to fix it. :D

I consider myself VERY liberal. Sometimes I feel like I need to remind people what the definition of the word liberal is:

1. favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.

2. ( often initial capital letter ) noting or pertaining to a political party advocating measures of progressive political reform.

3. of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism, especially the freedom of the individual and governmental guarantees of individual rights and liberties.

4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.

5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, especially with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.

What most libertarians don't realize is they are actually, very, VERY liberal. Every time I hear someone equate "liberal" to "socialist", it really really pisses me off.

I am a liberal, a classical liberal. As far as political platform... I go with whichever candidate I feel I like the best, based on their political stances. In 2008 I was a supporter of O-Bama. In 2012 I was a supporter of Gary Johnson.

Also, the back of my Subaru has a big Human Rights Campaign equals sign, and 2 EFF stickers ( https://www.eff.org/ ), My 1st Subaru decal, AWD: Do it On All Fours decal and finally in the lower right corner of my rear window there is an FOS (Friends of Scouting, I'm an assistant scoutmaster in my local boy scout troop) decal.
Getting back on topic, I kind of see several camps of the same tribe. The newer Subaru's seem to appeal to a wider audience and are a more refined than the earlier generations. The older ones to me have a more "utility" character to them. I own 2 older Outbacks because they get me in to where I need to go, in all weather, economically, and then get me out. There's room for my tools when I need it, the dog, my SCUBA gear when I go divining, etc. Because the cars are nicely basic, I don't feel guilty getting in after being out in the rain, snow, mud, sand, you name it. I think that's what "love" and a Subaru is all about. Paraphrasing Jeff Foxworthy "A true friend won't get you out of jail, he'd be sitting there next to you "Yeah, she didn't look like a cop to me either...""

A Kennedy Liberal! Liberal (as a word) is a good thing when associated with the right things like personal freedoms, horsepower and beer. Liberal when applied conservatively to these specific things is not a good thing... as well as being an oxymoron.

Ludwig Von Mises fan?
I don't know who that is.

So. Your post has officially dragged me out of lurker-dom. I couldn't resist. Been lurking about 8 months here, bought a Subaru 2 months ago, but didn't really plan on joining....until just now.

Set up an account....THEN, I got up off my couch at 3 minutes past midnight, went OUTSIDE in the 14 degree South Dakota night with my cell phone and a flashlight, wearing only pajamas and flip-flops...JUST so I could take a picture of my newly acquired motor vehicle and one of its recent sticker adornments, and post it on this forum.

Clearly, you are inside my friggin' brain or something, because "not wanting my fellow South Dakotans to mistake me for a progressive/liberal/democrat based on the car I drive...eeeeven if a Subaru stereotype doesn't really exist here because there are so few on the road that they're almost a novelty"....was my EXACT thought & a large part of my motivation for putting this sticker on my window.

That, and it was actually a gift from my roommate who is kind of a zealous obsessive fanboy for all things Rand, Beck and Wilcow...I *like* the same & think along similar lines, I am a registered libertarian gun toting freedom advocating independent stubborn woman....but have never QUITE been the type to latch on to another person's words/philosophy with rabid, cult-like adoration the way my roommate tends to. :)
But, free stickers are free stickers, I was appreciative of the gift, I do actually like the book very much....and it worked for the "theme" I was aiming for with the other stickers on my Outback....so all's good. :)

Oh, yah by the way....HI EVERYBODY *waves*....nice to meetya, being as this is my first post here figured I'd be polite and say hello. Name's Danielle, I drive a 2008 Outback 2.5i. I have four dogs, a husband and a messy roommate and a whole lot of freakish little Satan birds who generate income and try to eat people's souls. Pleasure to be here.

Maybe I'll even come back and post once in a while, now that I know for sure there are some folks here whom I'd have more in common with than just our really good taste in cars :)
