We bought a 2.5i and the 16" steel wheels weighed a bunch. Ended up ordering a set of inexpensive wheels, Sport Edition F7, from Tirerack for use with the stock tires. Each wheel dropped almost 5 lbs and was definitely noticable immediately when we drove the car.

I've got a set of TSW Nurburgrings (18x8) on mine. They weigh about 18lbs/wheel. Much lighter than stock, and the improvement in road feel is tremendous. The massive reduction in unsprung weight makes the stock underdamped struts much less soggy. The Michelin Pilot Supersports are very nice too :D Probably not good in the snow though they're superb in both the dry and wet.
The Michelin SS are nice tires and may add to a lighter set-up...But on an Outback? lol I have them on my SRT-4 and they are superb tires.

OP, I re-used the TPMS Sensors since we weren't going to have a dedicated set of rims for winter.
