Hello all, coming out of lurk mode here for the rare maintenance question. Our 2005 3.0 VDC 155K miles has stalled a few times recently, locked into a 2Krpm idle, CEL etc. Looked around the forms seemed to indicate this as the culprit. Of course pulled the codes and found TPS. Ordered it up on Rock auto, it comes, I pull of the plastic cover to do what I assume will be a 5 minute job and see a much larger sensor/motor attached to the throttle body.... with 5-6 wires as opposed to the small sensor with 3 pins I received.

This is a true drive by wire system, and the sensor on the gas pedal looks more like the size I received. Anyone have experience here? Thanks!

Been scrubbing the net, looks like the TPS is integrated into the TB, and cant find one in an online source. Looks like what I got was for a 2004 H6 motor, seems the 05's + have drive by wire systems. still researching. May take a stab at pulling the TB, dissasembling the sensor, cleaning and seeing what happens. Looks like it is held on by clips.

Funny there is VERY little on this on the forums.

Little info means it doesn't break very often!

If you can figure out which pins, if it's a normal type position sensor (potentiometer) you should be able to measure it with an ohmmeter.

Well...... it looks like the TPS is integrated into this drive by wire motorized throttle body, and is a special order $725 part...... Looked all over my normal parts sources and came up dry. Haven't flipped the switch yet, but at 158K this will be the most expensive repair, so far, so no real complaint. The only issue is the wife has been talking about trading it in but isnt sure. REALLY don't want to spend $750 for the part, only to hear her complain that she doesn't want to trade it in because it will be a waste.... then again, she will complain that she feels rushed to get a new car now..... ah the joys of SWMBO

ugh......
