Next, you'll probably tell me that for my own good I should not ride my motorcycle since it's FAR less safe than driving a car with no seat belt.
A good friend of mine works for NM DOT; the man will never get on bike now. Wrecking on a bike is a losing proposition.

As stated a couple of times already this question is not about the merits of seat belt usage. This is America and I am glad that folks feel open enough to chime in (ha get it chime in). Even if your opinions are completely off base and not really helpful to my original question.
So to those that provided the cut off procedure thanks a bunch. I appreciate.
To those that want to continue to drone about seat belt usage and statistics, or anything else feel free. I will not be reading this thread any further and that is my choice, as a free person.
x2
i feel the same way.

The opposite example happened with a relative of mine driving from international bridge tournament in Baltic through no man farm lands in Belorussia. He was the only one unbuckled in a car when drunken tractor driver pulled from the side road into the highway and rode over a car. He flew through the windshield and had just a few scratches, not even broken bones. His teammates were buckled and died when tractor smashed the car.
Puh...that is the exception...not the rule. When I was at university I had a job assisting autopsies. Saw lots of people come across the table because they were dumb enough not to wear their seatbelts.

and DBestman...that comic is priceless...puts us all in our place...lol :29:

hey spikemike...oh...you're not there

...and hey...it works.

Since the OP's question is answered and he has seen and acknowledged the same, I don't feel bad about continuing the derailment.

Anyway, it isn't always a losing proposition - I've seen more than a few bikers tossed onto the highway like a rag doll and walk away fine. I think a lot of that comes from bikers understanding their exposure and being more cautious. That is only anecdotes and not a scientific sampling, but all I've got.

Serious bikers know how to 'fall down' and how to react to the situation. If you try to fight some of the rolling and tumbling across the ground, you can actually hurt yourself more. If you are wearing proper gear, your skin is protected for some sliding and slapping around, and your key impact points are protected - like your elbows, knees, and head. It all works fine IF you don't get a really sudden stop in there, or run over by something (including your own bike). Problem with comparing that to a car is that you take away the open spaces to tumble on, and now are being shaken around inside a steel and glass box. No thanks.

Oh, and nobody goes THROUGH a windshield with 'just a few scratches'. I walked on a car hood once and fell and hit the windshield - and didn't break it. That HURT, and left me with some good bruising. Going through one at 45+ mph is NOT going to be a 'just a few scratches' experience. If you can hit it hard enough to break it such that you can pass through it, you are taking some serious damage.

I thought you had to do the buckle/ unbuckle 30 times. Anyway, it worked for me. I do not wear my seat belt when I am at the track. Driving for 1000 yards at a time while doing the safety work, I am going 5- 10mph, and the ding is annoying as he!!. I do however, use it on the road.
As far as the motorcycle thing, I have never gotten hurt yet. Even at 100mph. All the gear, all the time! But, then again, the wreck doesn't hurt. It is when you hit a tree or another car that does it.

Anybody have any luck doing this with a '12? I've tried multiple times, but can't seem to get it to work.
Howdy neighbor, Welcome aboard. Try clicking the seat belt right after you turn the key as the gauges are sweeping and the chimes are still sounding. If you wait until they stop it's more difficult to get enough clicks in the given time.

Hit up a junkyard and get a seatbelt clip minus the belt.
Or locate the wiring and modify it.
Not very difficult.

Seatbelt chime - easy solution

I stopped by the dealer, told them that I wanted to disable the seatbelt chime, they said 'ok, sign here' (some sort of waiver). 5 min with the tech guy under the dash with a laptop, and it's done. No probs :)

And yes, I always wear my seatbelt on the road. I just don't want an annoying chime to remind me - I like to think I am responsible enough to remember on my own ;)

Works on my 2012. I turned the car off/on after 20+ clicks.

I agree, you should all have the right to choose the way you live your life. But your choice changes the life of others.

My new Outback is at the dealer today for a trailer hitch, and I have asked them to disable the chime. They can do it easily. I want it disabled because on occasion my 60 pound dog comes up to the passenger seat and triggers the chime. I always wear my seat belt, even when moving the car 50 feet.

My wife took our car into the dealer (Shingle Springs Subaru) and they first told her it couldn't be done. Then when she said she knew it could they backtracked and said it could, but they wouldn't in CA because of liability. It's not the first time that dealership has lied to us, so not only are we still stuck with an obnoxious chime, we're also pissed at the monkeys at Shingle Springs and looking for a new mechanic.

If anyone knows a dealer in northern CA who will take care of this (the 20 clicks didn't seem to work) we'd be grateful to know who you go to.

It took me 2 or 3 attempts on my OB, but it eventually worked. I was waiting for my wife to get a coffee and tried a few times lol.

The trick is to fully engage the belt then unlatch it. It's a bit meticulous, but you should be able to get it.
