Uhaul 2" Hitch

I take it you are just using it for add ons like a bike rack? I would order a wiring kit anyway just to have the option of towing later. I have one on my first gen and it was only like 25 bucks. I'm sure its more for the newer model but it was really easy to DIY install.

Are you handy with a wrench? Installing a hitch is pretty simple could possibly save some money there as well. Just food for thought.

I wish they made a 2" for the first gen, I would have gotten it for sure, but I settled for 1-1/4" which has worked fine so far, I have a bike rack that fits it. Either way alwasy handy to have!

I know Jogosub on here has that one installed, and I am getting the same thing installed on mine on Friday. I will let you know how it looks/goes.

I m gonna have to hit them up for a discount, I think they quoted me slightly higher...around $239 - although that was with tax included.

The hitch itself is $170 - so I'm paying about 50 bucks for someone else to do it and have a lifetime warranty. Beats the dealer quoting me something around 600 out the door for a hitch that sticks out a little ways.

If you search UHaul hitch there is a picture of someone who had it done on this forum.

the wiring is just a plugin device you can purchase it at Etrailer.com for like $25. Takes about 5 minutes to plug it in your self. You can simply just keep it in the spare tire area no need to run it outside the car where it will get messed up in the weather and road grime etc. If you ever need it all you do is pull the cord out and shut the hatch on it been doing this since 2001 works great and your wiring stays clean and fully operational for the life of the car.

I had a Curt 2" hitch installed at a local hitch dealer for $165. Don't remember the warranty but not concerned about that. The hitch doesn't stick out at all from my bumper. I put in a wiring harness myself as described above. It was cheap on amazon and built for my Subie. Just located the plug in the side of the cargo area and plugged it in.

I'm actually looking for a pic from "hitch level" so I can get an idea of exactly how low it is and how visible it really is.

Rough guess based on my Hidden Hitch which is more or less mounted the same way the hitch sits about 12inches off the ground. For comparison my 93 Land cruiser with 34inch proper off road tires on it the hitch bar was about 9inches off the ground. None of the 2inch hitch bars stick out beyond the bumper given the way they mount under the car and sit back under the bumper. The factory 1 1/4 hitch passes through the bumper and sticks out probably due to the fact you would not have the ability to get the pin into the receiver if the receiver did not stick out far enough through the bumper to access the pin location.
