I own 4 Subarus. A 95,97,02 and a 14. The first two are 2.2 and the last two 2.5.

I wouldn't say that the $2100 was high for a dealer. On my 02, I got two prices for HG and complete timing belt/pulley replacement: One $2500 and one $3500. The latter price included fixing the muffler/cat system which was close to failure.
I finally had it done for $1500 including the muffler/cat repair. I bought all the parts off the internet.
