I have a 2018 3.6R touring. When it only had a couple of hundred miles on it I thought a couple of times I felt and heard a vibration while turning slightly right. Then at 2500 miles it would do it often and I could repeat it by slowly accelerating and turning right while having the rpm around 1400. I know people will say that is very specific and I just should not do that, but when you are driving that happens quite a bit without trying. Took it to the dealer and drove with a tech. He heard it. I was taking a 1400 mile trip and they said it was not a bearing and I would be ok. I should just bring it in after vacation.

I did just that and they had it for a few days and said they could not make the noise. They wanted me to come in and drive a brand new car and see if the noise was normal. I have had many cars and I know when a noise is not normal. I agreed to is and found the new car did not make any noise. Took the service manager for a ride and he heard it. They said they would have to call in a Subaru rep to look at the car.

One week goes by and they call me today and said they think they fixed it. They said they moved a transmission line they think was vibrating. I picked it up and did not hear the noise. I thought great. It is fixed. Well that quickly ended when I started hearing it again before I got home. It seems to start after it warms up a bit. Anyone have a clue or had this happen to them.

Sounds like it could be the same noise we hear from time to time. I think it’s an AWD thing. More seasoned forum users will have to weigh in for confirmation.

I have the same concern in my 2017 3.6r Touring. It only vibrates at low speed and is more pronounced turning right. It's a torque build-up with no codes. I'm looking for cause as you are. It's not caused a wheel bearing or axle. I'm going to concentrate on t-case next. I'm familiarizing myself with it's operation. I read wheres there a valve on trans. valve body that controls torque distribution, but in order to get solenoid you have to buy entire valve body. I have a tr690 I'll remove it from and same time check wiring continuity on trans. connector. Good Luck!!!

Update. Left when bearing replaced. No improvement. They feel it is an internal problem and they are replacing the entire transmission.

I'd be looking at diffs. That's where the 2 different road speeds collide when turning outside tire travels farther than inside tire. Most likely place to get chatter. T-case velocity is constant whether going straight or turning. Typically get noise there either powering or coasting or if you have loose surface so you're getting slippage.

I think its natural in the car.

Putting a lift kit on pronounces it.

None of my Subarus have made noises on turns unless wheel was FULLY locked left or right on dry pavement.

My 15 Legacy 3.6R made no noises either. Probably the best car I ever owned. That is the reason I bought the 18 outback 3.6R touring. If the 18 would have been my first Subaru I would not be buying a second one. I have been liking my rental better. It is an 18 crosstrek loaded.

UPDATE: transmission replaced due to fluid being darker than it should with the low miles. I am happy to report that the noise is gone. Hopefully it don’t come back.
