My 2015 started leaking water from the drivers side roof near the A pillar. Has anyone else had a similar issue? I've taken it to the dealership once a few weeks ago and they said that the drain from the sunroof was clogged. But to happen again so soon after they supposedly fixed it.... I'm thinking it may be something else.

Just figured I'd check in here to get any possible ideas.

Thanks!

Nothing on my 2015! It IS garaged BUT it also has been out in some decent rain storms so I guess the sunroof drains are still clear...? I think the dealers/techs usually blow the drains out with an air hose........

I started having water leak down from the eyesight cameras after having a broken windshield replaced; the replacement wasn't properly sealed. If your water is coming in next to the A pillar, it may be a faulty seal in the corner of the windshield.

Had the windshield replaced several years ago, not too long into owning the car. I would think that issue would've happened earlier, but I'll definitely have them check that. Thanks

Out of the 5 cars I've owned with moonroofs, this is the only one that has leaked. Besides I'm not positive it's the moonroof. I have a feeling it has something to do with the factory roof rails.

Here are a couple of PDFs from the FSM that show drain positions. Maybe it will give you some ideas. Good luck.

PS - Maybe you could take a spray bottle (on stream) and shoot some clear water down the A-pillar drain and see what happens.

I have a leak on the passenger side of my 2015 Outback, seems to be coming from the sun roof.
After some looking on the web I found that in earlier models of the outback there could be a couple of issues.
US service advisory 12-117-10R: - Links you to Document Code MSA5T1640A----an advisory for 2015 - 2017 Outback:
Leak from part of the rail assembly, and possibility of kinked drain hoses from the front drains.
Car at dealership now 2.25 years old with 70k kms, was told the repair was an out of warranty repair.......will see what they say when I go in with the USA service advisory.

I see 12-117-10R applies to 2010-13 models but if you have the MSA5T1640A doc, can you post it or a link?

I think you have to purchase a membership to see the contents of the document. It came from:
SUBARU Technical Information System

Update on the car:
Subaru tech at my dealership said it was the AC drain that was plugged, and they cleared it.
I sarcastically asked if that drain went through the head liner by the passenger door and caused a large water mark on the liner.
Long story short: Head liner was removed and the Sunroof was "re-sealed" FREE OF CHARGE.
Last night I pulled some trim so I could wet-vac out the water from under the carpet. I managed to remove about 10 cups of water from the Front and rear passenger foot wells, and under the passenger seat. Everything is soaked.
Going to contact Subaru Canada and see what, if anything, they are able to do to remedy this issue.
Cold weather is coming, and there is no way this will dry, plus it is already starting to stink of mold and mildew. Makes me think the sunroof leak / AC drain clog has been happening for a long time, just went undetected until I could see the standing water and my floor mats started floating.:frown2:

Bummer, glad I don't have one. Wouldn't have given it a second thought had the model I bought came with one. Better lucky than smart. Never had a problem with any other sunroof, but never saw much purpose either short of venting the car when parked.

I love the sunroof in my 09 Outback. Especially in the fall. Have not had a leak yet.

My son's 2005 Camry had a bad leak from a plugged drain line. Had the car professionally cleaned after the drain line was fixed, but it still smells musty. I'm going to try some baking soda on the carpet and then have it vacuumed again.

Both of our cars are parked in a driveway underneath Pine trees. They give off so much debris this time of year so I'm not surprised by leaking sunroofs. I blow off both cars when I clean the yard and keep them clean. I'm moving next week to a house with a garage. Hopefully, that will protect the cars.

So it rained last night, not hard but for most of the night.
Went to the car this morning and decided to have a look under the still pulled up carpet in the front passenger foot well.
Half an inch on water sloshing around.
Took the car back to the dealership, they need to keep it for a few days to have another look. The service guy was shocked by the amount of water in the car.
Sent Subaru Canada an email 5 days ago with no response...Followed this up with another email this morning.
Will post again when the verdict come in from the dealership.

Update 2:
So the issue was not the sun roof, but the windshield that was replaced by Subaru under warranty. (Cracked at the heating elements, something to do with incorrect glue used when attaching the wiper heating pads to the back of the glass.)
Apparently there was a faulty seal by one of the windshield retention clips, the water was getting in there and flowing down the A-Pillar to the passenger foot well.
So leak fixed, the dealership is now pulling out the carpet, drying, cleaning and deodorizing it prior to re-installing it.

And YES jjmst8pen, my driveway has a small slope to in, the front of the car is a little lower than the rear when parked. The rain water from the roof would have run over the faulty windshield seal.

So the problem is now fixed.
Turns out that the issue was not the sunroof, but the windshield that was replaced following a crack that developed along the wiper warming elements (an advisory item for which you can get the windshield replaced for free.)
Apparently there are clips along the top of the windshield, the one on the passenger side was not sealed properly when the glass was replaced which allowed water to enter the passenger compartment.
Leak fixed and carpet dried and deodorized.....Still smells a little, but is getting better with time.
Subaru Canada no help when I asked for new carpet. Still following up with this as the windshield was replaced by Subaru with OEM glass, they caused the leak, I am (so far) left with the collateral damage caused by their specialists bad installation.

FML....Windshield hit by small rock in the Wiper heater area and the windshield is again broken.
Hopefully I am not stuck in the Groundhog Day loop.
I guess I will be discussing the 5 year warranty for the replacement windshield with the dealership.

My 2016 started making sloshing noises from around the front of the sunroof after heavy overnight rain. I found the drain holes and poked a long cable tie in and then blew them clear as you suggested. Thanks for the tip. It seems to have solved the problem.
