I'm changing the oil pan gasket on my 99 OB. I'm using parmatex right stuff grey. One thing I haven;t read anything about is this o-ring inside the oil pan. See the picture below. What is it for and is it supposed to be hard like plastic or supple like rubber? Can I just replace it with a regular o ring or does it have to be lipped like the one that came out? Thanks

If its hardened, get a replacement from Subaru. It seals against the port at the rear of the block.

I hope you are using Permetex Ultra Grey for Japanese cars. The other sealers won't work to good. You will know you got the right on by the price; it cost lots more than the lower types and is the closest to Fuji Bond available.
