I just got a used 2012 Outback. The prior owner had the passive alarm enabled by the dealer, and I'd like to disable it.

What's involved in doing this? The manual says the dealer has to enable it (which is what happened), but says nothing about disabling it afterward. I called two local dealers; the first one said they can't do it, and the second one said she hadn't heard of this but that they could probably do it pretty quickly if I brought it in. Also, I had my local mechanic try doing it through his computer, but he didn't see any way to do it.

So:
(1) Can it be disabled after it was enabled?
(2) Do I need a dealer to do it?
(3) How much should I expect it to cost?

Thanks!

Before my time so I don't know the details on a 2012, but if was indeed turned on by a dealer then it should be able to be turned back off. Sounds like something they would do through the OBD port and a laptop, 1/2 hour labor would be a reasonable charge, 15 minutes even better.
