Hey guys,

I'm toying with the idea of selling or trading my car. My wife would say I'm going through a early mid-life crisis as I've been looking at cars from the 30's-60's, so this idea might pass. I know most of you know what comes on the Bean edition but here's the low down:

2002 Outback
LL Bean edition
H-6 3.0
Automatic
90,380 miles
Leather seats
Front heated seats
Dual sunroofs
Sound system with sub, 6 disc, single disc, and tape, Booyah!
Keyless
Power windows
Power doorlocks
Factory racks and cross bars
Cargo cover shade doohickey
Stock Bean floormats are still in good shape
No rust, no codes, no CELs
Everything works as it should with no issues

I'm the second owner of the car, prior to me it was only serviced at the dealership. I'm not a dealership guy, so since I have owned it I've done:
New tires in Dec with approx 11k miles (actually previous owner did these too, but I felt it was worth mentioning)
New fluids in Jan
New pulley, bearings, and belt in Feb (or whenever I asked a question about it on the forum)
New front rotors and pads in March.

The only things wrong with the car are it has a few dents. The leather on the outer bolsters of the front seats are cracked. Lastly on the Carfax it is listed as having a wreck, but with no airbag deployment. The previous owner scrapped the shopping cart return pilon and put a couple dents on the rear passenger fender lip. It never bothered me but I want to disclose everything.

I'm sure there is stuff I am forgetting. I actually like the car, it does everything it is supposed to, I just kind of want something else. The cars been my DD since Jan and does a great job.

So, a couple questions:
- What's market price on the above described car? Nada says between $6500-8500 does that seem right? I'm hoping the low mileage helps me out a little.
- Do I need to see about having the dents pulled? Would that really be much of an increase?
- Should I wait until winter to sell? (I'm actually thinking this will be a better time to sell, and since I'm in no rush why not wait)
- I don't have an work orders for the work I did on the car, but I have the receipts from when I purchased parts. Do I need to include those in the sale?

Sorry the pics aren't great, I just took them at lunch yesterday. It needs a bath. And bike racks are not included.

Showing a buyer the receipts is a + however you don't need to include them.

Minor dents easily pulled with no paint work needed is a good idea given dents are the first thing people spot. So yes if minor little dents are easily pulled do it.

NADA and edmunds I found to be behind the curve on used car prices for anything older than 06 in my recent car shopping done in April bought a 07 Sequoia and sold a 1993 mint condition low mileage Land Cruiser for $7000 had a guy fly 2hrs picked him up at the air port paid cash and drove it home 15hr drive. Zero issues sent me a note thanking me that the truck was great!

Look at Auto trader dealer prices for your car drop it about $500 and thats probably what you could start asking for it. My 07 Sequoia was selling on dealer lots for between 23-25K with zero records or history - I bought mine with all records from the original owner for 22K.

That should give you some ideas on how to do the pricing. By the way NADA and Kelly Blue book are one in the same and Kelly Blue book owns Autotrader.com. I don't put much weight on their pricing at all as a buyer or seller. Edmunds seems to be closer to the real deal in most of my experiences over the last few years but the used car market pricing has shot up in the past year and anything older than about 06 seems to be way over the suggested value by these sources.

kbb.com puts it $8-8700. I would ask 9250 for haggle room.

Of course, I bought my current VDC for $3k off the lot of a dealer's trade in inventory. Rebuilt the transmission, tinted the windows, alignment, repaired 3 leaks in the AC, completely overhauled the sound system and cleaned/waxed it. Total cost $6200. Oh, and $500 for personalized plate for 10 years.

Paying 3k (with no set payment schedule) for an 01 thats rusty, with a bad hg and a 2.5 at. Thinking yours would def be worth twice that and more. Good luck! And buy a Mopar (drop in a 440 6 pack or 426 hemi) or a Ford (with a ford engine). Chevys are just too common to be cool, and prices are getting overrated for them. Good luck! You are also in a prime area to pick up old iron in decent shape and price. Take a country drive in the fall and peek into old barns. :)

If indisnt know better id say your pictures are of my car! I have the same car in NJ and I paid 6400 for mine off of a dealer lot that my dad knew. Mine had 104,000 on it and a clean carfax with a pretty much perfect body and interior. I'd say it's worth around 8. That's what te dealer wanted for mine before we talked to our friend.
