I have a 2002 outback with a 2.5 liter engine. I purchased a replacement PCV valve, but the new valve did not match the valve I removed. The engine is a four valve engine, not a six valve like the 3.0 liter engine. However, the PCV valve I removed is the valve for the 3.0 liter engine, but the engine, according to the VIN is a 2.5 liter engine. Anybody experienced this issue before?

There was a switch over between 2001 and 2002 model years for the PCV

From Subaru Parts your PCV should look like this for MY 2002 on your Outback 2.5L engine

PN 11810AA040

For a MY 2002 3.0L engine the PCV looks like this

PN 11810AA021

Best bet is to go to this website

https://parts.subaru.com/

And put in your VIN to verify what part you need.

such may fit, but eZ30D engines have a different compression ratio then Ej251 autos /EJ252 manuals of the day.

______

I bought a used truck a while back, and was swapping simple things as it had no records,
bought a a OEM type PCV valve for it, and the existing one did not look at all like it.
