im looking at a nice set of '02 WRX rims for ym 98 LOB. will the difference in offset cause me any problems? brake clearance?

i know they'll bolt right on, but will the larger offset (55mm over 48mm) be too hard on my wheel bearings?

No, it won't kill your WBs. this effect is more a problem with the tapered roller brgs used on conventional RWD cars anyway, and i drove a truck for years with waaay more outbaord offset than stock (bought it that way) with no unusual WB problems. you will prolly note an improvement in cornering due to the slightly wider track, and possibly an increase in bump steer.

Actually the higher offset will push the wheels towards the inside, resulting in a reduced track width...

You may be right on the stock WRX wheels being 55mm, but it seems that the vast majority of wheels being sold for the WRX are 52mm...
