I’m curious how much below MSRP or Invoice on these models? Also where is the best place to get accurate Invoice pricing for said years.
Thanks

I paid $30,200 for a 2013 Limited with moonroof, navigation, body side molding, puddle lights, splash guards, rear bumper cover and rear side compartment cargo net. The MSRP was $33,341.

Even though I didn't buy the car through a Costco dealer I used the Costco pricing of $600 below invoice for negotiating purposes. There is plenty of bargaining room on the 2013 as dealers are getting double hold backs and even more bargaining room on the 2012's. You can get accurate invoice pricing on the 2012 from www.edmunds.com. Also look at www.truecar.com, as they have pricing for both 2012 and 2013. The following can be found on www.cars101.com.

6/13 2013 prices announced- destination now $795. Minor increases- 2.5 Premium +$200, 2.5 Limited +$400. Eyesight drive assist/moonroof/Navigation package is $3940, Special Appearance/moonroof/Navigation package is $3645

I was going to hold out for a 2013 but I got tired of waiting, so I bought my 2012 on May 29th for $25.8k ($2k under MSRP) before TTL. A good deal - not the best, but far from the worst. I also got the dealer to raise my trade in to full KBB value on my 2008 trade in and Subaru beat my preapproval for finiancing through my Credit Union, so I got 2.90%. I didn't want 0.9% on a shorter term loan. They also let me take my trade in home that night so that I could strip it down (amp, subwoofer, trailer hitch, LED tail lights, etc.) - I made several hundred dollars selling that stuff to people on my old forum.

My car:
  • 2.5i Premium
  • CVT
  • All Weather Package
  • popular package 1b (Auto dimming rear view mirror with compass and Homelink, Splash guards, Rear bumper cover, Rubber floor mats )
  • rear cargo net
  • 2 yrs free maintenance
  • $500 Costco Card
  • $50 dealer gift certificate
  • On top, I paid an additional $700 for the 6yr/80k Gold Plus warranty (down from $1800 MSRP)
I self-installed some additional stuff:
  • wheel arch moldings (OEM)
  • rear seat back protector (OEM)
  • front metal license plate bracket (OEM)
  • Pioneer Appradio 2 (Aftermarket)
  • Subwoofer (aftermarket)
  • rear view camera (aftermarket)
  • 4500k HID headlights (aftermarket)
  • Torklift hitch (aftermarket)
  • 2x Inno INA383 bike carriers (aftermarket)
Katzskin leather is next, then I should be about finished. Loving this car. :D

...still haven't spent the Costco money. I wish the were Katzkin dealers.

The 2.5 Prem/CVT is the price leader in this class, a lot buck-bang for $25K.<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p

Another intangible, time is money.<O:p</O:p
The more time you spend with your rep, you’ll pay for that. Spend as less time as possible with your dealer, and not be a showroom fixture. You should be able to reach a negotiated transaction within 2-3 counteroffers.

Picked up my 13 today.
Trade in my 2012 limited + moonroof at $25,750 (My 12 was bought at 28k)
My 13 limited + moonroof + nav+ eyesight + other stuffs is $29,995. MSRP is around $34.5k.

I negotiated with difference directly.
The total difference OTD is $5000 (around 9% tax here).
Since I have bought the maintenance plan last year, I have a $500 coupon to buy a new subaru.
After using the coupon, I canceled the plan and got about $250 back
(SOA told me to use the coupon and then cancel it because I did not finished the plan and it can not be transferred from 12 to 13 :))

So the final price is around $4250 OTD Difference.
Re-Finance with 2.59% APR 60 months. (my previous APR is 2.79%)

Could not be happier about the new car. However, eyesight cruise control is a little bit scary for me because I always brake ahead than normal people (I drive very defensively), I always feel that the eyesight brakes later than I thought. But, it works very well in Chicago's highway traffic.

Hello, my wife and I just ordered our 2013 3.6R Limited Outback with Moonroof--Nav--Eyesight and the 'out-the-door' price is $36,205 ($33,413 including NJ sales tax of 7%, dealer fees & Motor vehicle fee for 4 years). Got many responses from this forum about prices before purchasing and this seems to be a fair market price. I also used cars101.com & Truecar.com before I sent out emails to my area dealerships for price offers. I contacted 20 local & long distance dealers (within 200 miles) via email and after a week of weeding out the lousy offers we selected a dealership and issued a deposit once we were convinced that they would stick to their offer and not add any hidden fees. We also made sure to communicate through email with every dealership in order to have every word in writing. Only after we made our choice did we make the call. Some salespeople disregarded our request to be contacted via email and decided to call us, those people were immediately removed from our consideration list (after all, how trustworthy can they be if they won't honer a simple request). It was fun to see all the dealerships fighting for our business after we forwarded all our email offers to each competitor respectively. Some salespeople went as far as to slander other dealerships in order to try and make the sale, it was comical. To quote my wife..."it's like having an auction in our living room!". Good luck with your purchase.

Harvey, That trade in price appears to be way too low - did you look into the Subaru Guaranteed Trade In Value? I got $14,750 for my 2008 Impreza OBS with 36k miles on it. The legacy limited has to be worth more than the OBS. The OB price is not too bad. If I get one, I'm pretty sure it will be less; however, that's between me and the dealer/SOA. All in all, I guess it's "water under the bridge" and you live in MA.

I paid invoice ($31,820) +TTL on my 2013 w/Eyesight and and few popular options (MSRP: $34,541). Having done my homework on this forum, I knew I could have bargained dealers against one another to get closer to 2% under invoice. I really had no interest in that strategy. I'm driving the car I wanted at a price I can be happy about. For instance, here are some of the things I did not pay:

  • I did not spend a week (or hours or even minutes) negotiating prices. Don't get me wrong--I enjoy a good staredown as much as the next guy--but I had better things to do with my time. In fact, I used the extra time to get my mortgage lowered under 3%. That's worth hundreds a month to me.
  • I did not travel 100 miles. I live in a college town, population 80k while school is in and half that during the summer. We have 1 Subaru dealer. There are 2 or 3 dealers within a 90-minute drive but I could care less. I bought a car made in my home state from a dealer in my home town. I prefer to keep my money as close to me as possible. That's worth something to me.
  • I did not spend 3 weeks figuring out the NAV/bluetooth/etc. The guys at the dealership are happy to sit down with me for an hour to setup my system. I'm functionally literate with the gadgetry but these guys know how people use the systems. Manuals don't know that stuff. Maybe you get that kind of service with a bottom-dollar deal, maybe you don't.
  • I won't be paying for service this year. Synthetic oil changes, car washes and the like are on the house

Maybe I could've got the same deal if I knocked $600 off the price or maybe that's just the cost of the all-inclusive package, I don't know and I don't care. I got exactly what I wanted, that's all I know. I tip 20% for standard restaurant service (often more) and I get superior service as a result. It works for me, hopefully you find a system that works for you too.

*edit: I didn't trade my other Outback. I didn't have a car payment either until today but the money is just too cheap. With rates near 2% for 72 months it costs less than 90 cents a day to borrow $30,000.

2013 Limited Edition #23 Package in Brilliant Brown Pearl

Just purchased a new 2013 2.5 i Limited Special Edition in Brilliant Brown Pearl last week with the #23 Package. It is also equipped with side mouldings, Cargo net, an extra set of All Weather Floor Mats and Splash Guards. MSR on the vehicle was $34,076. Was able to get it for $ 30,855 plus tax & doc fee. Judging by what I am reading, I think I did OK. This is my first SUBARU and I absolutely love the car. This Limited Edition in color seem to be rather hard to find and don't last long on the dealer's lot. My dealer stated he had two of them shipped in and the first one sold the first day. He had numerous inquiries about the second one I purchased and it would have been gone had I not moved quickly on the deal.

Yesterday I purchased a 2013 2.5i Limited with the Special Appearance Package (#23). Brilliant brown pearl with the saddle brown leather interior. MSRP $34,126.00 and I was quoted $31,497.00 from one dealer, $30,997.00. Went with the dealer who was $500.00 higher but they ended coming down to match the price. I traded in my 05 Lincoln Navigator with 78k on the clock (worked the price first) The brilliant brown pearl is a really cool color---looks more like a deep reddish brown.

Had a Curt Class III trailer hitch installed (model 13390) at Rack N Road. That was $386.00 out the door with wiring and took about 45 minutes to have installed. FYI---the 2012 and 2013 is the same for trailer install--most places dont have the updated info on the 2013's and hitches but its the same. It is a "hidden hitch" and is flush with the bumper.

Will be picking my 2013 2.5i Limited up on Wednesday. Heres what I got.

Royal Blue Indigo 2.5i Limited w/Moonroof, NAV & Eyesight
Body Side Mouldings, Package#3 (wheel locks, splash guards, rear seat back protector, rear cargo net, rear bumper cover, all-weather floor mats)

MSRP $34564
Invoice $31855
SamsClub Discount $300
Vehicle Sales Price $31555
TTL & Doc Fee $1272

Trade Value $1191 ($13500 for my 2009 Acura TSX, 90K miles on it kinda hurt, I owed $12309)
Down Payment $1639
Total Financed at 2.49 for 63 months = $30000

This deal was done in about 30mins, I had been to two other Subaru dealers in the area and got the run around from all of them, either they couldn't get the car i wanted or every one I had picked from their lot was conveniently sold. It was refreshing how smoothly this deal went down, no run around, no BS, no haggling over the price. They just asked me what I was looking for and they arranged a dealer trade for it in about 5 minutes.

Anybody aware of any current "extra" dealer holdbacks/discounts? I went in to crunch numbers on a '13SAP at the dealer and without any negotiation he came in with $3800.00 (2% below invoice) off MSRP. Seems to be a pretty strong first offer. They were only offering $3400.00 off the 2012's???? Could that be a Costco type deal?

There's not nearly as much cost to the dealer if you roll of the lot the moment the car arrives. I suspect that getting 13s off the lot to folks who won't take a 12 for any reason is another way to keep interest focused on the 12s (less effort to hide something you don't have).

Hard to say, and I doubt the dealers will just tell you either.
