My cruise turns on but will not set. After a lot of research and checking I came across a utube vid that said try lifting on the brake pedal and setting the cruise. Sure enough it set. As soon as I let the pedal back down it unset. What does this mean and how to correct? thanks

I'm confused; are you riding the brake pedal?

Any cruise control on any car every built will deactivate whenever the brake pedal is touched; you then can use "resume" to activate it again.

Either the brake switch is loose or out of adjustment, or it's worn and not setting in the OFF position.

Yep, it needs to be really close. If it’s not close enough, the switch won’t detect the presence of the pedal and will conclude the brake is being pressed all the time. Hence no cruise.

With your current setup, when you lift up on the brake pedal, it gets close enough to the switch (or hits it) for it to conclude the brake pedal is not being pushed. Hence you get cruise.

.3 mm is virtually nothing?

Yes thats what I believed. I adjusted the switch downward there is no doubt the brake pedal is touching the switch when not depressed. Would this make you think the switch is bad, the brake lights are working fine. After adjusting the cruise woyuld not set even when I liftedd up on the brake pedaal as it had before? should there be a space between the pedal and the switch? Thanks

You mean the electrical connector? There is usually a little tab that needs to be pressed to lever up a piece of plastic that catches on a tab.

But if you’re just installing the stopper, I’m not sure why you need to disconnect the electrical connector…
