25240AA060 appears to be the correct Subaru part number for the AVLS diagnostic oil pressure sensor switch. 2012 Subaru Outback Engine Oil Pressure Switch. HEAD, SYSTEM, CYLINDER - 25240AA060 - Genuine Subaru Part It has a plastic connector body on the top; not an exposed spade lug which is on the one used for the engine oil pressure.

In addition to the difference in the connectors, I believe there could be a difference in the switching pressure point. The engine oil pressure sensor -- the one with the spade lug connector -- is designed to "switch" at around 2 - 4 psi; in other words it's just indicating the presence of some, albeit little, pressure.

The AVLS mechanism requires significant oil pressure to make the mechanical change in the valve cam. As such, the AVLS diagnostic oil pressure sensor switch, I believe (I haven't tested one to confirm), has a higher pressure switching threshold in order to verify when the pressure, determined by the AVLS oil switching solenoid, is at or above the required level to enable the cam control to mechanically switch between low and high lift.

Beck Arnley 2111954 doesn't seem to come up in a Google search. There's at least one report here where aftermarket AVLS sensors (don't recall the brankd/model) were used, and they turned out to be problematic.

Sounds like a good plan. If there's a pick-n-pull auto recycling yard in you area, might be able to pick up the connector. I think it's the same from around 2006. Also, if there's a late model Subaru, even the pressure switch (slightly revised design, but fully interchangeable).

Very important: Do not overtighten when installing the switch. It's a tapered thread, and there's cases here of the head being cracked because of this. Also, note that the switch ground side is part of the circuit, so there needs to be good electrical contact between the switch threads and those in the head.

Please let us know what you do and how it works out.
