I was wondering if anyone has been able to install the Rockford Fosgate upgrade in their 2022 Outback. I recently got a 2022 Premium but I was told that in the 2022 models the Rockford Fosgate system can't be installed due to the harness being changed. Which is why it's not an available option anymore for the newer Outbacks.

If it really can't be installed in the 2022's what audio upgrades are available? I do know about the kicker tweeter upgrade which I just ordered but i'd love to add an amp and try to keep it as factory as possible.

I believe there are people in that thread that added an amp with relative ease.

This is the first I have heard of this - sometimes dealerships make stuff up but if it's true this needs investigation.

I checked the subaru parts website and it seems that all of the harnesses are the same unless I missed the one that changed (click on the "what this fits" tab for compatibility).

Will your dealership give you specifics about which part changed? An actual part number?

They just said that the harness for the radio is different which will not allow them to install the Rockford Fosgate amp. I also asked a friend who worked at another Subaru dealership and they told me the same thing but as you found there doesn't seem to be anything different in the harnesses. I haven't been able to find any posts in the forum of someone adding the Rockford Fosgate upgrade to a 2022. I even checked the Canadian Subaru website and the upgrade is available on the 2021's but not the 2022's. I wonder what has changed?

Ask your friend at the dealership what the part number is for the 2022 Radio harness so we can look it up?

The RF system is just two door speakers and an amp. For about the same price as the RF upgrade, you can have 4 new door speakers, dash tweeters and an amp professionally installed . My son had best buy upgrade his 2022 Crosstrek sport (with Kicker speakers and Key Amp ) just 2 months back. They charged a flat fee of $200 labor ( including adding a self powered Kicker Subwoofer) and did a heck of a job. Very clean install with much greater capabilities than the RF. The car sounds awesome!

Before you pull the trigger on audio upgrades, read this thread which has people trying various options from RF to Focal to Kicker.

Thanks. I previously read through most of that and already ordered your tweeter recommendation! Will hang tight to see if anymore posts about the RF upgrade on 2022z The dealer just said there were some harness differences. Whether that is real or not is tbd. Would rather let dealer do it as it is a new car. Last time I went Best Buy they tapped into my fuel pump power line by accident with a screw. Another story.

People with the Rockford Fosgate audio upgrade have no more problems with Apple Carplay than people without the RF upgrade, and the RF system has been installed on Wilderness vehicles. This needs further review.

I know that you self installed the RF upgrade on you OBW. I was planning on doing the same until I read this. If CarPlay will be impacted, that is a dealbreaker.

If you are an iOS user, have you experienced any issues since installing?

I don't have an OBW nor the RF - it would be interesting to hear if there are any iOS users having issues with the RF upgrade - just because I haven't seen any complaints about it doesn't mean it's not happening.

I just installed these today in my 2022 Outback premium without Harmon Kardon and WHAT a difference for such a reasonable price. came with adapters and wire harness. I also ordered a under the seat subwoofer, but I'm honestly thinking about returning it. Car now has really good bass.
