I tried to apply the new DCM update a couple of days ago, but now I get a "Subaru Starlink service update in progress" message every time I start the car up. The remote start no longer works and if I push the blue "i" button it gives a message that "Telematics Service In Progress". The green light never came on. It looks like the DCM can't talk to the Subaru servers anymore. Wonder if I have to take it in to the dealer.

I think the car needs to go into 'sleep' mode after the update, to finish it off, or something like that. Some say you need to lock it, with everything closed, so give that a try tonight, and see if the message goes away tomorrow. By the way, I'm trying to update my maps now, and the car refused to do it, so maybe something changed. Having said that, I also got the same update a few days ago, and it got done, since I didn't get anything like that. So hopefully that suggestion will work. Good luck, and keep us posted.

I also am having this issue on 23' Outback Limited XT. I called the service number and the operator was unable to help. She had me press the the blue button; after which, she told me she could not communicate with my vehicle and suggested I take it to the dealer. I took it to the dealer and they first updated/overwrote the software with the dealer version. Then after running diagnosis they tell me the the "data communication module" needs to be replaced and that it is covered under the warranty. He ordered the part and will call when it arrives.

I went to the dealer today. They applied a software update to the information system. I am now at FHM1WMM185-180. Took about 3 hours.

It didn't fix the DCM issue. Message still pops up. Starlink still didn't connect. They said they would need to keep the car for a few days to determine the issue. I'm wondering if the OTA update In tried to apply bricked the DCM?

I too had this exact problem. I don't know why you're dealer is taking so long to determine that yes the dcm is bricked as it was in my case. Had the new DCM put in yesterday. It was covered under warranty and did not cost anything. I did not opt for extra warranty so it is under basic warranty. When i got home after the dcm installation the same 8 minute update came up. Grudgingly I pressed yes to install.I left the car off for 45 minutes, started up and message was successful.
