21 Onyx XT, 6200 miles
Two weeks ago vehicle started blowing hot air even with AC selected on.
Observations:
Green light indicating AC on illuminated, would not extinguish when AC selected off
Compressor engaged, no cycling, whether AC selected on or off or blower on or off
Full function of recirc and fresh air modes
Took to dealer:
Dealer states never seen this problem before, SoA states same
Service states that compressor was not generating any pressure even though clutch was engaged with no cycling off
and that compressor internals were not even rotating
Service installed new compressor and test run for leak check
Engine compartment immediately filled with vapor, fluorescent leak test, and burning smell
Service manager states that rigid AC pipe had ruptured and all contents of AC system escaped as soon as new
compressor was engaged
Dealer still has vehicle, ordered and waiting for new AC rigid line and SoA to make any recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
I never had any vehicle with AC perform in this manner. Service could not explain why AC low pressure cutout didn't prevent compressor from engaging when there was low/no system pressure. Have also never seen any rigid pipe in an AC system rupture. We're not talking about an o-ring or connection/union fail. We are talking about a linear rupture of the rigid pipe. Will try to get and post pictures and location of rigid AC line being referenced.
Anybody have anything remotely similar or any of the symptoms described above?
